Maaaaan Time Flies!!
I remember it like it was yesterday. The day I made the decision to set out and move to LA. It was like all my years of dreaming finally came to fruition. Since I was in middle school, I always knew I was gonna end back in LA.
**Fun Fact: Although I spent most of my life in Tucson, AZ (until I was 15) and Winston-Salem, NC (15-23), I am actually originally from LA. My family and I moved when I was just a little nugget, no more than a year old or so.
Anyway, the night before my Dad and I set out to drive across the country from Charlotte, NC to Los Angeles, CA, I thought to myself, “What the heck am I doing? Is this really happening?” I remember growing so nervous and so I called my big sister hoping she’d offer some sort of comfort. I asked her, “Nicky, am I crazy for making this move?” I mean after all, I only had $800 saved to my name, no job set in place when I got there, and just one friend who offered me her couch until I got settled and situated. My sister’s response was anything but comforting, as she replied, “Heck yea it’s crazy! Most people in their right mind wouldn’t and couldn’t do what you’re doing, BUT…. You HAVE do it.” Although her words weren’t exactly what I WANTED to hear, it was indeed what I NEEDED to hear. She said I HAD to do it. And she was absolutely right.
After 40+ hrs. of driving across the country over the course of a week (My Dad and I made frequent stops along the way visiting family and friends and taking time to rest) we FINALLY touched down in LA. I remember my initial reaction as we drove through the city was, “Gas is $4.18 a gallon?!!! Heck No! Take me back! I ain’t gone make it!” LOL Sheeesh!! Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING is so expensive in LA. I mean where else do you have to pay .14 cents for bags (per bag) when you grocery shop for goodness sakes!
Once I got past the excitement of finally arriving, it was time to get to work. Now, as you know with chasing any dream, you are bound to face some resistance, trials, and tribulations, and when I tell you I’ve had my fair share…. listen, it’s been quite the ride. However, we all know that’s part of the journey and I’m very grateful for all the great things I’ve accomplished thus far. It would take all day to tell you about every moment, endeavor, and achievement but, just to name a few of the most memorable:
- Meeting and Working with Countless Celebrities.
- Getting to Train and be Coached by THEE Denzel Washington.
- Having Magic Johnson as a Mentor and Becoming Not Only Great Friends, But Now Family with Him.
- Starring in Numerous Films, TV Shows/Webseries, Plays, Speaking Engagements, and Hosting.
- Winning The Title of Miss City of Los Angeles as well as The First Ever Miss Greater Inland Empire, and Competing and placing the Top 20 in Miss California USA, (and the Top 10 in Miss NC USA).
- And the List Goes On! Here’s a Link to My IMDb Page if You’d Like to See a More Lengthy List of my Work: http://imdb.me/brittneyqhill

I’m grateful that God has brought me this far in my journey. They “say” most people don’t last 5 years here in LA, and I can see why. I’ve had many moments where I felt like I wouldn’t make it this far and wanted to throw in the towel. But, by the grace of God I’m still here and I still have so much more in me to give.
So, I want to take this moment to encourage anyone who has a dream that seems much bigger than YOU. Remember, we serve a God that’s BIGGER than anything we face. If your dream doesn’t scare you, it’s not big enough! God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. And YOU were chosen to carry out the purpose God has placed on your life. So today, stand on this word from my favorite scripture in Ephesians 3:20
“Now unto Him who is able to do EXCEEDINGLY, ABUNDANTLY, ABOVE, all that we can ever ask, think, or imagine.”
As always, I’m praying for you! Thanks so much for reading! Now go be Great!
